EditVoicepack
From FSOnline.dk
EditVoicepack offers a simple interface to edit the file containing the ATC communication used in Microsoft Flight Simulator. It is possible to change the phraseology as well as add airline callsigns, airports, and aircraft types. EditVoicepack already contains thousands of ready made entries; and is able to download new entries from a central server. It also allows you to accelerate the existing voices for a more realistic experience and better handling of traffic in dense environments.

[edit] Upgrading from previous versions
[edit] EditVoicepack 2.x/3.x
Install EditVoicepack X to a different folder than the previous version (this is default behaviour). You can export modifications from the old version and import them in EditVoicepack X.
[edit] EditVoicepack 4 beta
- Export any custom modifications you have made
- Install the new version
- Run the new version. If your custom modifications have not been preserved import them again.
[edit] Using EditVoicepack for the first time
After installing EditVoicepack X you should go through these steps. For many users, this is all they will ever need to do with EditVoicepack.
- Close Flight Simulator X if you have it running.
- Run EditVoicepack X (the installer placed an icon in your start menu)
- Once EditVoicepack is started, select "Update Voicepack..." from the "File" menu.
- Step through the wizard, carefully reading the text on each screen and making the appropriary choices.
- Close EditVoicepack.
- You can now start Flight Simulator X.
If you are not satisfied with the result of your choices, simply go through these steps again.
[edit] Determining which modifications to include
When you run "Update Voicepack" you can select which regions you want to include modifications for. This should be sufficient for most users, but in some situations it can be desirable to control inclusion or exclusion of groups of modifications, or even a single modification. This is done by selecting the checkboxes in the tree view to the left. Most checkboxes have three states: Explicit Included (white with a green checkmark), Explicit Excluded (white without any checkmark), or Default (gray with or without a green checkmark).
Notice a single modification can in a few cases be inserted several places in the tree.
If a checkbox is set to Default, it will be included if any of its direct parent nodes in the tree are included (either because it is explicit included or if it is included by default as well).
The presence of a green checkmark always indicates the node is included while the lack off a green checkbox will indicate the node is excluded.
[edit] Adding Modifications
As there are currently no way to add modifications to the "Community Modifications" branch of the navigation tree, the only way to get new modifications is using one of the following methods:
[edit] Creating new modifications

[edit] Importing and Exporting Modifications
To export a modification you have created:
- Select the modification in the navigation tree

[edit] Troubleshooting
[edit] Known problems in this release
- The selected node can change when scrolling the tree with many nodes expanded.
- Video memory is "leaked" when editing modifications. On systems with limited video memory:
- Save often when you are editing.
- Avoid unneccessary switching between modifications and voices.
- Avoid unneccessary resizing the panel containing the wave file controls.
- Sound is not being played when editing/creating modifications
- Unfortunately it's not yet known how to solve this problem. But to make sure it really is a problem, check the sound isn't playing through a headset or another output device that might be muted.
[edit] Restoring the original Flight Simulator voicepack
If you encounter any problems with EditVoicepack or the Flight Simulator ATC the first step is to restore the original Flight Simulator voicepack. The following procedure is for the English version of Flight Simulator Deluxe, and file names might be different in other versions - if you have problems following the instructions, please post on the support forum.
- Locate the folder "~/Sound/ATC" (where ~ represents the folder you installed Flight Simulator in).
- Delete all the files in the folder, but leave the directory.
- Insert Flight Simulator DVD 1.
- Open the file D1Feat~6.cab on the DVD
- Copy the largest file in the cab file to "~/Sound/ATC"
- Rename the file to "USEnglishBig.gvp".
