[edit] Installing

[edit] Remove old scenery packages

A number of independent scenery packages are now included in Denmark Scenery. You should uninstall these packages before installing Denmark Scenery. The sceneries you should remove are:

  • Copenhagen City
  • Himmelbjerg Tower
  • Noerre Lyngvig Lighthouse
  • Aalborg v.o5
  • Previous versions of Denmark Scenery
  • EKYT (Aalborg airport)
  • Storebæltsbroen
  • Øresundsbron (only for FSX, users of FS2004 can keep this scenery package)

[edit] Choose a Denmark Scenery package

Denmark Scenery is available in the following packages:

  • Denmark Scenery for Flight Simulator 2004
  • Denmark Scenery for Flight Simulator 2004 Photo Scenery
  • Denmark Scenery for Flight Simulator X

If you use DanVFR or similar on Fligh Simulator 2004 you should install the "Photo Scenery" package - if not, you should install the standard packages.

[edit] Download

The scenery packages can be downloaded from the file library at www.avsim.com. Search fo the following file names:

[edit] Flight Simulator 2004

  • Standard version: dkscn2k4_12_file1of2.zip & dkscn2k4_12_file2of2.zip
  • Version for users of photo scenery like DanVFR: dkscn2k4_12p_file1of2.zip & dkscn2k4_12p_file1of2.zip
  • Service pack (for both versions): dkscen_12_fs9_sp.zip

[edit] Flight Simulator X

  • denmark_scenery_fsx_v1_3_partone.zip
  • denmark_scenery_fsx_v1_3_parttwo.zip

[edit] Install base scenery

If you use Flight Simulator 2004 you should install a georeferenced scenery providing precise coastlines, for example Danish Base Scenery or DanVFR.

If you use Flight Simulator X you will by default have fairly accurate coastlines, but it is recommended that you use Denmark Map X, a freeware georeferenced scenery with coastlines and roads.

[edit] Place Denmark Scenery files on your hard disk

  1. Create a folder on your hard disk. It is recommeded to name this folder "Denmark Scenery" and place it in the "Addon Scenery" folder located in your Flight Simulator root folder, but you can freely choose any name or location you prefer.
  2. Copy the content of the Denmark Scenery zip file to this folder (for FSX, the content of both zip files must be placed in the folder).
  3. Copy the content of the "Effects" folder in Denmark Scenery to the "Effects" folder in Flight Simulator.

[edit] Activate Denmark Scenery in Flight Simulator

  1. Start Flight Simulator
  2. From the main menu of Flight Simulator choose "Settings" and then "Scenery Library...".
  3. Choose "Add Area...".
  4. Select the folder you created in step 1 and press "OK".
  5. Restart Flight Simulator if you use Flight Simulator 2004.

[edit] Install Mesh Scenery

If you use Flight Simulator X, or if you have already installed the mesh as part of your DanVFR installation, your do not need to do more - Denmark Scenery has been installed.

  1. Move the file "Rename_denmark_hp.bat" to the folder "C:\Programmer\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\Eurw\Scenery", where "C:\Programmer\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9" must be replaced with the path to the root folder of your Flight Simulator installation.
  2. Run the file (by double clicking it).

As a result, the following files are renamed:

  • HP950110.bgl changed to HP950110.xxx
  • HP950120.bgl changed to HP950120.xxx
  • HP951120.bgl changed to HP951120.xxx

If you want to uninstall the mesh, you should manually rename these files to their original name.

[edit] Known issues

  1. FSX users may experience flickering of some of the ground polygons at EKVL Værløse, when viewed from certain angles. Furthermore, some parts of the taxiway layout (especially in the northeast part of the airfield) will look a bit strange in FSX, since this part of the scenery was made with Afcad 2.21 for FS9. FSX seems to interpret transitions between different materials (concrete - asphalt) differently than FS9, which results in some odd details. These issues will be corrected in a later version of the scenery.
  2. FS9 users who also fly in the regions of southern Sweden or Northern Germany will experience that the renaming of the three bgl files mentioned above will result in some very odd coastlines in the simulator (more specifically the division between land and water doesn't follow the coastlines). For these users it will propably be the best solution to rename these three files back to HP950110.bgl etc. The result on the visual appearance of the Denmark mesh will be some slightly steeper hills in some areas, but the overall efffect should hopefully be less dramatic than the effect on the coastlines of the neighbouring regions.
  3. Users of FSX with the DX10 preview enabled will experience some missing textures when flying at night, dusk, or dawn. The affected textures are the ground arround some airports and the generic houses in the center of Copenhangen.
  4. Users of FSX who experience invisible AI aircrafts can try turning off "Aircrafts cast shadows" in the graphics settings, or updating their AI aircraft models to FSX versions with DDS texture files.
